Three questions before you hand anything over

• Is there a charge for the diagnosis, and what happens if I decline the repair? Many workshops charge for looking, which is fair, but you want to know before leaving the laptop.
• What guarantee covers the repair? On screens and batteries this is what really separates one workshop from another, more than the price.
• Back up your data first. The dullest advice there is, and the one that prevents the most grief, especially if the device will not start.
