Vets

There are five veterinary practices in town, and one veterinary hospital covering the wider area for emergencies.

Two legal requirements you should know

If you live here with a dog, the microchip and the rabies vaccination are compulsory in Andalusia. They are the first things you will be asked for, and without them you cannot register the animal or travel with it.

Practical

  • Ask about out-of-hours cover before you need it. Not every practice in town offers it, and knowing which door to knock on at three in the morning is not something to work out at three in the morning.
  • The dog beach. Torre del Mar has a stretch of sand set aside for dogs at El Mortero, the western end, open all year. That is unusual on this coast and worth knowing if you travel with your dog.
