There are eight pharmacies in Torre del Mar, most of them along Avenida de Andalucía and the centre, so you are never far from one.

A Spanish pharmacy does more than you expect

If you come from a country where the pharmacy just hands over boxes, this will surprise you. Here the pharmacist takes your blood pressure, advises on medication and resolves a great deal without an appointment, which for many everyday problems is faster than the health centre. Many medicines that elsewhere need a prescription can be discussed here first.

The duty pharmacy

Outside normal hours there is always one open on rota. The rota changes daily, so the only reliable source is the official list published by the Málaga pharmacists' association. No timetable is reproduced here on purpose: a duty list copied today would send someone to a closed door in two weeks.

Why there are only eight

Pharmacies in Spain are licensed and their number per population is set by the administration. These eight are, in practice, all there is going to be, no matter how much the town grows.
