Spanish bed sizes are different, and this catches everyone

The standard mattress length in Spain is 190 cm, not 200. The usual double is 135 cm wide, a size that does not exist in Germany or the United Kingdom, and 150 is the larger common option. If you have brought bedding with you, or you are buying online from abroad, measure the bed base before ordering anything. Sheets and mattresses bought in two different countries very often do not fit each other.

Three things to settle in the shop

• Lie on it in your sleeping position. Sitting on the edge tells you nothing.
• Agree the delivery date and the access. Stairwells in older buildings here are narrow and a mattress that will not turn the corner is a real problem.
• Ask whether they take the old one away. Bulky waste here is collected by appointment, so it is worth having it included.
