Police
A confusion worth clearing up first: the national police station serving the whole municipality is in Torre del Mar, in Calle Puerta del Mar, and not in Vélez-Málaga, despite Vélez being the municipal capital.
What is handled there
- Reporting a crime. You can do this at any police station, not necessarily the one where it happened, and some offences can be reported online.
- National identity document and passport, both by appointment. This is the most requested procedure and it is not attended without one, so book ahead in the busy months.
Emergencies
The police station is for procedures and reports. Anything urgent goes through 112, the single European emergency number, which covers police, fire and medical emergencies and has English-speaking operators.
