The National Police station that serves the whole municipality of Vélez-Málaga is physically in Torre del Mar, on Calle Puerta del Mar. Google often labels it with the name of the municipality, which sends people to the wrong town, and it is worth stating plainly: the station is here.

What actually brings a foreign resident to this door

Three things. Reporting a theft, which needs a denuncia and which your insurer and your embassy will both ask for. Replacing a stolen or lost passport, which starts with that report. And the paperwork of residency and identification for foreigners, which is handled by the National Police rather than by the town hall.

Appointments for those procedures are normally requested online in advance and the slots are not plentiful, so start well before any deadline. Take originals and copies of everything, and if your Spanish is limited, take somebody with you. It is not a place where improvising works well.
