Broker or agent, and why the difference is worth knowing

An agente represents one insurance company and sells its products. A correduría is a broker: it is legally required to advise you independently and it places your policy with whichever insurer suits, then acts for you when there is a claim.

Neither is better in the abstract. An agent who has looked after a street for twenty years will fight for a client, and a broker with three quotes is not automatically cheaper.
