Hotel Loimar

The Hotel Loimar is the three star of the town, on Calle Santa Margarita, inside the grid of streets rather than on the seafront. Simple rooms, air conditioning, and a price that in July is the argument.

It carries a 4.2 over four hundred reviews, which for its category is a solid record, and it is the answer I give when someone tells me the four star houses have gone up too much for their week in August. You lose the pool and the sea view. You keep the beach at five minutes and the whole centre at two.

What I would check when I book

Ask whether the room faces the street or the inner courtyard, and ask about the air conditioning in the smaller rooms, because in a Mediterranean August that single question decides the week. Beyond that, book early: with five hotels in the whole town, the cheapest beds are the first to disappear and the fallback is a holiday flat, not another hotel.
