Five car hire firms in Torre del Mar carry a public rating. These are local companies, not the airport desks, which is a different market with different prices and a different queue.
The daily rate is not the price
What actually decides what a hire costs in Spain is the excess, the amount you are liable for if the car is damaged. A cheap headline rate usually comes with a high excess and a large hold on your card; a higher rate often includes the waiver. Compare those two numbers together or you are not comparing anything.
Three more things to check
- The fuel policy. Full to full is the fair one. Anything else is a margin.
- Whether a card in the driver's name is required for the deposit, and how much it is. This is the most common reason a booking falls apart at the counter.
- Photograph the car before you drive off, all four corners and the roof. It takes a minute and it settles every argument about a scratch.
Local versus airport
Hiring here means no airport queue and a company you can walk back to, which matters if something goes wrong. It also means collecting the car in town, so factor in how you get here from the airport in the first place.
