Best bakeries
Nine bakeries and cake shops in Torre del Mar carry a public rating, with close to 1,600 reviews between them. In Spain the two trades overlap, and most of these sell both bread and cakes.
The table splits by what they actually make
The top of the table is a sourdough bakery, with an organic bread bakery right behind it, while the most reviewed business of the trade is a traditional pastelería with more than five hundred opinions, well down the list. They are not competing for the same customer. The score puts the small specialists on top because they are the only three in the trade with a website of their own, and the volume column shows who the town has been going to for decades.
What to buy and when
- Bread is bought daily and it goes stale fast, because it has nothing in it to stop that. Buy in the morning, and buy for one day.
- Sunday morning is the busiest hour of the week in every bakery in town.
- Ask for the local speciality. This is Málaga: several of these make tortas and Christmas sweets to their own recipe, and they are only around in season.
